Will we ever be equal? ( Feminist)

When one hears the word feminist different things run through his or her mind. I know when i hear the word feminist different things run through my mind. Some of the things I think about when I hear the word feminist I think about the inequality between men and women or women's rights. What is the exact definition of a feminist? According to www.dictionary.com the meaning of the word feminist means is the doctrine, advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to men. Before women had many political rights as of today women were view lower than men in society and didn't have any political rights as men. One of those rights were women weren't allow to vote until the nineteen amendment which states " the right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.
You will think the amount of years it took women to fight for their political rights that men and women will be equal in society but unfortunately that is not true. The dominat position in society affects the equality in society. To be honest as woman I don't think women will ever be equal to men. We live in a capitalist society and only the rich survive and half of the rich in our country are men. Even though in society men and women are changing traditional roles the women is still view as the traditional house hold mom. Women could fight for many rights but women will never be as equal in a capitalist society.

  1. I would like to ask that if we are in a market of capitalism, we see that the rich are the ones in the majority and must be so in order to prosper. You said half of the rich are men. This is interesting because if half of the rich are men, you then are implying that the other half are actually women. By this you realize that then both the rich males and the rich females are in the exact same quantity in our country. If this follows then we must accept that men and women are equal because they hold the same wealth. Obviously men and women are not equals because we see the plight of the feminist struggle every day in society.

  2. I agree that women may never be equal; a prime example of this is that male CEOs are usually paid way higher than female CEOs, and the same with other positions. I really don't know if we will ever be to the point where women and men are looked at the same way. Like Kristine said, I a lot of society still expects mothers to be the parent that stays home to take care of the household and their kids. On the other hand, I do think the feminist movement has come a very long way since the time when women had virtually no rights at all in comparison to men.

  3. The idea that men dominate the corporate sector is not new, however, there are currently many studies that predict a change in the future. For example, Foreign Policy recently ran an article titled "The Death of Macho" in which the author argues that the characteristics of men, which include an increased level of acceptance of risk, are what led to the recent economic downturn in Wall Street. She then goes on to claim that women more often than men have been cited as taking more precautious measures prior to the burst of the housing bubble and that there is a distinct possibility that men will pay for their rash decisions in the business world in lost jobs. While this is merely a prediction, I will be very curious to see if it actually plays out and the advances it could make for feminism.
