The Power of the Court

The legislative branch of the government is a very powerful system, yet various pieces of legislation are commonly confusing and unclear. Thus, the power of judicial discretion is an imperative aspect to the role of judges in our court systems. Judges should obtain the ability to interpret the laws as they perceive them in an attempt to determine the best possible outcome for the benefit of society. Since the creation of laws, legislators have written them in such a way that there is no definite or correct interpretation. Therefore, judges are trusted to act in a manner that is non biased. The question is, how do individuals NOT include their personal beliefs when interpreting a document or law? Aren't our personal perceptions and beliefs systems a major factor in our decisions and opinions regarding certain issues? One individual may interpret something as morally right due to religious beliefs or personal experiences, yet another person may feel that their opinion is more realistic or justified. As citizens of the United States of America, we place an immense amount of trust into the hands of judges and law makers due to the fact that we allow them to make the correct decisions regarding situations that could greatly effect our well being.
